Desert Iguana
The desert iguana is one of the well known animal and is spotted by many. There are many people who claimed that they have seen iguanas in theirs yards and are lhainding behind rocks. Flowers and leaves of several bushes are best food for iguanas by nature. Desert iguanas have full control on its body temerature and iguana changes its color from grey to pure white according to climate. To avoid feeling very hot in morning iguana wear darkest of its color in morning and it changes to white in midday.
The desert iguana is known for its scientific name dispsosaurus dorsalis and it commonly thrives in the South Eastern California deserts preferably in the Mojave and Sonoran deserts, in Southwest Utah, Southern Nevada, Baja, California, South Central Arizona, Northwest Mexico, and others can be relatively found in the gulf of the Californian islands. For most of its life, the desert iguana is fond of staying in the sandy and arid habitats usually fondling in the creosote bushes and the rocks that they call their shelters. Abundant burrows of these kangroo rats is one of the best place for desert iguanas. In the southern habitats, the desert iguanas can be usually spotted in the deciduous forests and subtropical places.
Description of the Desert Iguana
When the desert iguana matures, its growth ranges from ten up to sixteen inches long. Iguanas which lives in deserts have rounded and large body. In iguanas the tail grows long. The head becomes brown-colored which specifically follows a netlike outline that is reddish brown in hue. Neck and trunk of desert iguana contain grayish and tan spots. White or grayish spots are present on tail of iguanas. During hot climate desert iguanas climb up to bushes to seek cooler areas. Despite the warm condition of climate, the iguanas who lives in desert can remain active.
Desert iguanas are well known vegitarians because they seek refuges from bushes. Green plants are best food for iguanas so they are scientifically classified as herbivorse. Yellowish flowers of creosote bush is one of the loveable food for desert iguanas. Insects,lizards and feces are best food for desert iguanas. Desert iguana is not a dangerous animal for humans.
One other of desert iguana is that it can move fastly. Iguanas can cross roads just simply ahead of cars with great speed. Such kind of fast movement in desert iguanas are just because of strong back legs. For your pet iguana there are many predators which can damage iguanas, some of these predators are human beigns, rats and foxes. There are many animals present in desert which can eat eggs of iguanas.
The Desert Iguana's Breeding Season
At the middle period of the month of March, the desert green iguana start to come out from its long period of hibernation. The breeding season for the desert iguana happens in between April up to May. Desert iguanas lay eggs between months of may and june, these eggs hatched in latter part of august. All throughout the breeding season, the adult desert iguanas have that pink color at the side of their bellies.
