How To Look After Your Parrot With Care
March 1st, 2011 by admin

All my life, I have classed parrots as the most outstanding pet to have Maybe the love started when I was a child and my aunty introduced me to her parrot. Since my husband died I have been quite lonely. Looking back at old photgraphs, I happened to spot one of me as a young girl next to my aunties parrot. I remember the pleasure that the parrot bought me so i decided that I would purchase one for myself.

I should of looked into the care and training first, before I bought a parrot. However I remember my aunt telling me that they just needed care, attention, love and patience. But patience was not my strong point. Thought I would go to the library to read up on parrots before visiting the pet shop. I knew a parrot would make a great pet if cared for properly. A bright and content parrot would give me love and friendship back.

In the library, there were loads of good books but one in particular stood out. The book started me off from the basics such as making the cage large enough so that the bird could spread its wings. On the bottom of the cage, must be paper and this should be cleaned every day to get rid of old food and bird droppings. I would need to buy toys to keep it occupied, a perch and of course plenty of food, including a water bowl.

The book also suggested that if the parrot liked water to let it play around in water. When its claws became too long, then it was advisable to let a vet clip them. A parrot also can not just live on seeds alone. It must have fruit, nuts, grains and vegetables. Its water would have to be changed every day.

There seemed to be such a lot of work that goes into looking after a parrot. Nevertheless I was not deterred from purchasing one, specially when I read it was necessary to talk to your parrot every day. For a bird, social interaction is crucial and this was great as I was desperate for some company.

The pet store was the next place to visit. Spoke to the chap behind the counter, to my delight he had just what I was looking for, a handsome green and yellow Macaw. The shop assistant offered sound advice too, such as not cleaning out the cage with chemicals, just hot water. Bought the cage, the accessories and of course the bird itself, all for a terrific price.

My new parrot is now called Dolly. We formed a deep bond within the same day. She is my new best friend and she goes everywhere with me in the house. I spend a lot of time on the internet reading as many articles that I can about parrots. Interesting articles on training them, keeping them occupied, teaching them to talk, were all available for me to read, very helpful.

There are loads of websites on parrots but a few in particular are my favorites. Dolly has bought joy and laughter back to my house. Buy a parrot yourself, they make terrific friends. Parrot Care is easy when you know how and as pets, parrots can being so much joy and fun to your life.
