Places Where Your Cat Can Sleep?
April 6th, 2010 by admin

It is necessary to have a place where your new kitten can sleep when you first bring him home.Furthermore, it requires a great deal of thought before going to collect your new kitten!

Several people have very strong opinions regarding this matter. They do not want the cat to sleep in other areas only in its own bed-perhaps a specially brought bed.  They certainly don’t want kitty finding its way into bedrooms or sleeping on sofas/armchairs.There are many cat owners who do not segregate the kitten from its human family and instead allow it to choose where it would like to sleep. There are no correct or incorrect decisions on this matter, the only thing that matters is what works for you and your family.  What you do need to do however is make the decision, and the preparations prior to introducing your kitty to its new environment.

Please ensure you give suffcient thought into where you wish your kitten to sleep either in its own bed, in the kitchen or your bedroom or even another area of the house.  You are bringing into your home a baby cat, a kitty who has just that day been taken from its mother.Your cat will probably be more than happy to fussed over when people are there, but once everone leaves and departs to bed your cat may well feel lonely and frightened.  If you have a blanket that his mother had been sleeping on and still has her scent, place this in his sleeping basket as it will give him a little security.

It is unwise to allow your kitten on your bed especially on the first few nights as its gives the impression that it is acceptable.  That would be setting a precedent that you will find hard to break once he gets into a habit of sleeping beside you.Until your kitten is more familiar with his new surroundings you may want to consider sitting next to his bed at night just until he is more confident in his new home.

If you permit your kitten to sleep in any bed in the house, then you must take a few precautions to ensure that he is hurt throughout the night.Try and arrange rolled up towels or blankets around him to act as a buffer, failing that if he has a basket see if there is a place on the bed where he can sit without being kicked off!

Despite thinking you know where your cat is likely to sleep be prepared to find him elsewhere!  Cats in general have a tendency to be opinionated and do their own thing regardless of how it fits into your plans, so accept this from the get-go, and then if you try to get kitty excited about where you want him to sleep and fail, find a compromise that you can both be happy about!
