Rescue Dog Training Methods You Should Try
May 17th, 2011 by admin

After a dog has been given a new home the initial challenge will be how you can start the rescue dog training. Many people will decide to get a dog this way simply because they will show the owner much gratitude. Although to some extent this might be true each dog deserves a good home with a routine and quality training from their owner.

Many times the dogs could possibly have issues and trouble getting along with other animals or children because of exactly what they’ve been through. To find out if that is the situation the new owner can speak to the foster home where the dog might have stayed. The old guardian may be able to shed some light on what level the dog has been trained at and how they react to young children and cats.

Using the understanding of what the dog has encountered and their temperament it is now possible to monitor their behavior and determine the right regimen. The first thing that should be addressed by rescue dog training is getting the animal to trust people once again. Usually when a dog is abused or badly treated they will find it difficult to trust people.

When walking your dog in the park it’s a good idea to introduce them to other individuals and give them a treat to show them they’re harmless. Should your dog appear nervous gently pat their head and chin to reassure them that they’re alright. It is never a very good idea to force your dog into doing anything they appear uncomfortable with; people should take their time and try to remember they have tomorrow.

When the dog is unable to sit at command already this must be taught right away. When the dog meets other individuals tell him to sit and that can also stop him from jumping up. When you are on walks make sure the dog sits at the curb and as a form of motivation give them a treat for doing as they are told. Even at meals ensure that the dog sits just before they are fed; using this method they are going to become a really obedient animal and consistently realize that the owner is the top dog.

A crate is a great bit of equipment to have to begin with particularly because the person will not likely understand how the dog will respond when left on his own. To help get them accustomed to the crate the owner might toss toys inside and offer them their meals in it to show them it’s a fun place to be. Not all dogs will require this since some will have had rescue dog training to a high degree already.
