One of the smartest kinds of dogs are the poodles. Im sure you already know that. When you decide to get a dog for your home, it is advised that you research the characteristics of the breed you decided upon. This is especially true for knowing characteristics of a poodle when you’re preparing to get one.
There are three types of poodles to speak of. Standard poodles are the biggest in size and not really standard size in my opinion. The Miniature Poodles which are actually a medium sized dog and not really miniature. And then we have the small and cuddly toy poodles which justifies the name. Some would also consider the teacup poodles a seperate type of poodle but I usually count them the same as the toy poodles.
Due to these different types of species within a specie class, these different types of poodles do have differences in characteristics. However, I want to keep this article focused on the characteristics that are common among poodles.
poodles are gentle and sweet natured animals so its really easy to get along with them. Poodles are therefore considered a family dog. If you have children in your house, you would do well to have a poodle as their playmate.
Not all dogs are as intelligent as the poodles. In fact, these dogs are rated very high in the intelligence chart. This makes it easy to train them. They are also more receptive to special tricks and show dog training for this very reason.
Some people think that poodles tend to bite more than other dogs. While that may be technically true, there is more to it. Poodle biting is not an inherent characteristic. Since, poodles are cute and cudly, people tend to want to pet them and reach out to them with their hands. Even though poodles like being pet and patted, the poor thing is bound to want to bite one when its had enough! You see what I mean, its only natural…
Poodles have manes and they look gorgeous. But only if you tend them well. If you take care of it, they would not shed at all either. That’s one less hassel to have around the house.
Sometime ago, there was some talk of an aggressive poodle trying to bite off its owner’s head in Italy. Poodles are not inherently violent creatures. The owner has got to have done something wrong with the poor thing if it tried to bite her head off. Such things are usually the result of something traumatic, not taken care of when a dog is young. Such things can very well happen with other dogs.
One downside of poodles is that they do have a high upkeep. That does not necessarily mean in terms of money. However, it does mean that you will need to put in time and at least some amount of money to the upkeep of your poodle.
