All About The Mitral Valve Disease And How The Cavalier Can Survive It
Aug 28th, 2011 by admin

Numerous people all over the world have learned to adore the 20th century King Charles Cavalier puppies for sale. This breed of canine, usually regarded as toy dog and historically regarded as lap dog, is probably the most loving, playful and extremely patient breed of dogs in existence. They are even termed “the ultimate lap dog” or the “love sponge” of dogs because of their outstanding temperament.

But despite the affection they have in their hearts, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels can have problems with a number of genetic flaws that can cause danger to their well being – one of these is mitral valve illness. Just as the name indicates, mitral valve disease (MVD) is often a degeneration of the heart’s mitral valve. This occurs if the hinge around the heart’s mitral valve loosens and hence won’t be able to shut entirely after every pumping action. For this reason, the blood flows backward through them out of your ventricle back to the atrium. This weakening causes heart murmurs and later congestive heart failure even while very young. MVD is affecting over fifty percent of all Cavalier King Charles Spaniels from age 5 and nearly all of them around age 10. As a matter of fact this illness is known as the leading cause of death of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels across the world.

No single dog owner would like to see this happening to their precious canine buddy, right? In order to prevent this disease, and needless to say to extend your pet’s life, your Cavalier ought to be tested for heart murmurs each year commencing at age one year. Take note that there are other reasons for heart murmurs. A veterinarian may hear heart murmur on the left side however this cannot be linked right away to MVD. The illness is diagnosed depending upon where the regurgitation is observed through monitoring employing stethoscopic examinations, x-rays, echocardiograms as well as color Doppler echocardiograms.

King Charles Cavalier breeders play an essential role in preventing the spread of the ailment. A reliable breeder is aware that more than half of most Cavaliers who are only five years of age aremaybe infected with the condition; thus they should not be bred. Actually Cavaliers in excess of 5 years of age shouldn’t be bred if it had shown an MVD prior to the age of five years. It is also essential that those who will probably be included in the breeding process ought to be evaluated by veterinarian cardiologists and cleared by veterinary specialists for MVD.

Pathology Of Black Ferrets
Aug 7th, 2011 by admin

You don’t need a medical degree for ferrets, but as a pet owner, you must be well acquainted on the dangers underlying your black ferret’s medical condition. There are some illnesses unique only to black ferrets and yet other which are also occurring in other members of kingdom Animalia. If you are a concerned owner of a black ferret, here is a guide that can help you become well-versed on the different pathological states that could happen to your black ferret.

Rabies

Ferrets get paralyzed in the hind leg when they have rabies, and just like any other mammal, it’s something that humans must watch out for especially if they get bitten by the ferret. But there are particular chemicals that when placed on the ferret will not allow them to secrete the rabies virus from their saliva, but this is also something that needs to be done with the ferret is still a kit.

Neural Tube Defects

The neural defect is a bit of an endemic condition which involves a deformed ferret skull that can also affect the tissue of the brain and the spinal column. Retardation imminent, there are also growth defects to ferrets which have this condition and they manifest as early as its birth. The loss of neural tissue may sometimes even be highly graphic and unpleasant.

Helicobacter mustilae and Gastric Ulcers

Old ferrets (four years and up) are prone to this condition. It is commonly known in human terms as gastric ulcers. Recently discovered, it has taken the lives of many ferrets and posed as one of the dangers that pet owners must consider when having a pet ferret. Peptic ulcers may also result after long term untreated state.

Megaesophagus

The esophagus of the ferrets dilate and may sometimes cause bronchopneumonia in some cases. Like dogs and cats who have it, ferrets who have megaesophagus are also at high risk of acquiring the candido infection.

Enteritis and Intestinal Parasites

Even ferrets run the risk of having parasites roam in their system, and this is exactly what happens when they get inflicted with enteritis, particularly of the eosinophilic variety. This diseases causes male ferrets of 1 year or younger to waste away. It is also closely linked to other diseases of ferrets, though there is really no tangible evidence of them.

Canine Distemper

Lesions and a deadly virus characterize canine distemper. Any ferret afflicted with this illness is sure to die and perish miserably. Treatment is really not an option since the only available things in the market today for this would be the vaccination which is more of a preventive measure. The thing with canine distemper is that it causes lesions and weakens your ferret until it dies.

Colic

Irregular bowel movements may also harm your pet ferret. Only few in a ferret colony get this kind of disease but their discharges often reeks of blood and mucus. Inside the body the epithelial tissues get thicker, altering the whole ferret body system completely.

Dental Disease

Like humans, the black ferrets’ dentures are exposed and are at risk for some diseases. The canine tips, for one, are most highly at risk since it is the most exposed and most used. Malformations in the teeth shape, discoloration of the entire set of teeth and broken teeth are just some of the examples.

Reptilian Pets: The Snake Every Boys Dream Pet
Aug 6th, 2011 by admin

Most girls and moms have an adverse reaction to having a snake or any other dangerous animal as a pet, however with proper care and the correct selection even those with aversions can become quite fascinated by the snake as a pet. The key is to do a lot of research when buying a snake. Most pet shops will sell the harmless snakes and teach you how to feed them. If you always wanted a snake as a pet when you were a boy, you might choose something a little more exotic. Tips to finding the right snake for you or your child can come in handy when you are faced with the task.First you will want to research snakes in general. You have your garden-variety snake that is very common and not dangerous. Then there are pythons, kings, and boa constrictor snakes. Keep in mind if this is for a child you probably want a harmless snake that will not grow to large. The larger snakes mentioned above take more care and larger aquariums and are not suited for smaller children. The species of snake you chose will have a special diet. Most species have different diets. You may have seen a pet snake in the pet store eating mice while other snakes do not. It is important to choose a snake you can provide proper food for at all times. You also do not want to keep a wild snake, as they tend to carry diseases and stress with the change in environment. It is best to shop at a trustworthy pet shop or snake breeder.

Most king snakes and gopher snakes tend to eat mice and need to have plenty of water to drink. You may have a little pond in your aquarium with a tree branches, rocks, and dirt for your snake. Like food most snakes require a special environment. You will want to research that snake before choosing the environmental accessories. Snakes are often tropical in nature so they require heat as well as moderate temperatures in the evening.  You have heard of the desert being cold at night. Snakes are proliferating in the desert areas and rainforests. Being able to provide the proper environment will ensure a long life for you new pet.Touching on food again you also need to have a feeding schedule. Some snakes do not have to eat every day. In fact, gopher snakes will not eat every day. If you are getting a pet snake for you child you will want to make sure they understand the feeding schedule. Most young adults can handle having a pet snake while little children will need you to take care of the snake.Handling the snake is also important. The more a snake is used to human contact the more contact the more domicile they tend to be. This means those that are dangerous can be held given proper training and handling. I recommend staying away from these snakes when you first have a pet snake. It is important to take small steps when you have a pet snake to get used to their special needs.Snakes can make great pets if you take proper care of them. Many young boys and even girls are fascinated with snakes. They have pretty colors and just the lure of a little danger can add to the interest. Make sure you are prepared for the requirements needed from you to have a pet snake before giving in to a child’s demand.

How To Buy Webkins Pets Locally
Aug 2nd, 2011 by admin

Are you the parent of a child who wants to own their own Webkinz pet?  If you are, you may be curious as to how the whole process works.  One common question that is also asked is how can these pets be purchased; please continue reading on to get your answers. For starters, it is important to know what you will be buying.  You will need to purchase a plush Webkinz animal for your child.  These animals come in a number of different styles, including panda bears, tigers, cats, dogs, frogs, turtles, and so forth.  Attached to the animals is a tag that holds a Webkinz secret code.  This code enables your child to gain access to the company website.  There, they will be able to adopt and name an online, virtual version of their new plush pet.  They can then play games and do other online activities to earn KinzCash.  This cash can be used to care for your child’s animal, like to buy them food, furniture, and other cool accessories. As for how you can go about buying Webkins pets for your child locally, you will want to visit any stores that you can think of.  Since they are essentially toys, you can visit your local toy stores.  You also should look at the online, virtual part.  For that reason, you may also find Webkins sold in local media stores, like bookstores.  There are also some small, locally owned and operated gift shops that sell them as well.

If you don’t know of any stores in your area that sell Webkinz, you can perform a search online.  Many search engines have online business directories.  These allow you to search for a particular business, like a toy store or a gift shop, based on your zip code.  They provide you with the address of the store in question, so that you can visit it to see if they sell what you are looking for.Although Webkinz are increasing in popularity, not all locally owned and operated retail stores sell them.  For that reason, you may first want to call your local toy stores, media stores, and gift shops first.  This may help to save you a trip.  If the store in question does not sell Webkinz products, ask them if they know of anyone who does locally.

Another easy way that you can find local retailers that sell Webkins pets is by visiting the company website.  This website is located at Webkinz.com.  They give you an option to find local retailers that sell the plush pets, as well as other products.  You will need to enter in your country and then choose your city and state.  You should be provided with a list of stores and their phone numbers or addresses.  Even though these stores do sell Webkinz, you may still want to call ahead to make sure they are in-stock.So, what should you do if none of your local stores carry Webkins pets?  You can move on and look for other retailers, but you may also want to ask.  As previously stated, Webkinz are increasing in popularity and some stores need just a little push or a few suggestions.  If your local retailers do sell the Webkins plush pets and their secret codes, but you aren’t presented with a large section, you may want to ask.  Most of these stores have access to a special catalog.  They may be able to place an extra order for your if your child is looking for something in particular, like a popular or sold out Webkinz.

Planning Small Business Pet Store Well
Aug 1st, 2011 by admin

You do have a full-time work, but for fun on Saturday you would like to pursue an interest you have had for some time: running a small business pet store. However, while the idea of getting to play with numerous animals and also making an income is indeed appealing, you should first thoroughly plan your small business pet store.

A Small Business Pet Store Needs a Considerable Amount of Time and Money

First of all, you will have to do before you start your small business pet store is to evaluate your personal finances. Even if you have an abundance of money saved, you should get a small business loan from your local bank. By doing this, if your pet store does not, for some reasons, become successful, you can use your money you have saved to pay off the loan on a gradual basis.

Once you have the small business loan secured, the next thing that you should do is to get a place to rent for your small business pet store. The thing to keep in mind is that you want a place which is easily accessible to numerous people. Because of this, a location in a strip mall or a large shopping mall is perfect.

Obviously, the rent is one thing that will have to be considered too. A place may have a great location, but if the rent is incredibly high, move on to something less expensive. Some may argue, then, that the cost of advertising your small business pet store would then amount to what you could have paid had you rented a place in an area which needed little advertising. Therefore, is all really coming down to your own preferences and budget?

Once the rented space has been selected, the next thing is ensuring that no repairs need to be done. If there are some repairs, they should be settled by the lease contract you signed when you started renting the space. So the next step is to buy the equipment so that you can run your business like electronic cash drawer and used cash registers for processing consumer transactions and then you have to provide cages for all of the animals.

Reasonably, it is best to begin with a couple of animals to gauge the public’s response. To do this, you’ll need to contact breeders and set up contracts with them. Additionally, you will have to think about employees. When possible, hire people you know and trust, or make it a strictly family business. While there’s a lot of planning to be done, if done with patience, you’re sure to have a great pet store ready in a short time!

Deep Sea Fishing
Jul 8th, 2011 by admin

So what is it exactly that you do with the fish you

catch? For some, they abide the philosophy of keeping

enough for their meal and releasing the rest. The best

fish would be the freshest ones. Even though you’re

not into cooking them yourselves, a lot of local

restaurants can offer you preparations for a fresh

catch meal. Sitting down on a meal of fish that you

just caught would be the perfect ending for one great

fishing day. Most consider it to be one of the most

satisfying things to do that anyone can accomplish!

Why Conserve?

Fish is a renewable resource. Thus, proper management

and techniques are needed to ensure their survival and

the abundance of the resource for the future

generations. In fact, overfished stocks would require

years of regulatory actions and monitoring to restore

its fishery level into one that is self-sufficient and

self-sustaining.Additionally, for every year that passes, there seems

to be more restrictions in regards to the recreational

bags. Even size limits are imposed. All of these due

to the occurrence of overfishing which is in

consequence of improved technology.

The Solution

Practicing the habit of catch and release is actually

one of the ways in which recreational anglers like you

could help ensure the health and prosperity of the

future fisheries. In this way, you can also guarantee

everybody’s opportunity to have a fun day of deep sea

fishing that is concluded with a scrumptious and

satisfying meal. Here are some of the ways in which you can help ensure

survival of the fish that you release and get some

satisfaction by returning your catch to its

environment.

Get Your Tackle Right

First off you should make sure that your tackle

matches the fish you’re targeting. Although it may not

seem obvious, doing this can ensure its safety once

you release it back into the waters. If your tackle is

too light, it would be exhausted by the moment you

land it. Thus due to its exhaustion, it could be a

very easy target for predators when release it back to

the waters; since it couldn’t swim that fast anymore.

Customize Your Hook

Customizing your hook is yet another way to conserve

your catch. By simply using a pair of pliers, you can

mash down your hook’s barb. Doing this would enable

you for an easier release of the catch and better

safety on its side. Another great addition to the

terminal tackle you’ll be doing would be circle hooks.

When the catch swallows the hook, all you have to do

is cut the line closely as you can to your hook, then

release your catch as quickly as you can.

Don’t Suffocate It

As much as possible, while releasing your catch leave

it in the water. If there is no choice but to handle

it out of the water, then be sure that you wet your

hands. You should do this to reduce the removal of its

protective slime layer that covers it. The removal of

this layer can make your catch susceptible to disease

once it goes back to the waters.

Hold It Right

Handling the fish is important too. You should make

sure that you don’t grab it in its gills or eyes,

since these are very sensitive areas that fish need

for survival.

Bedding For Your Golden
Jul 3rd, 2011 by admin

Bedding for your Golden Retriever is very important, as this is where he will be spending quite a bit of time – especially at night.  The ideal bedding for your Golden should be a natural fiber, such as wool, as wool absorbs most moisture and will keep your companion warm.  When you get your blanket, you can try thrift stores, as they aren’t very expensive.  You don’t want to buy an expensive blanket, for the fact that Golden Retrievers love to chew.  They can chew or tear the blanket in no time at all, which would make an expensive blanket a waste of money. When bringing your Golden puppy home, he may be a little upset having to leave his mom and the others of his litter.  The scents and memories that he come to know and love are now being replaced with totally new ones.  If you provide a towel for your Golden to sleep with, it may help to ease him a bit.  Towels are a great way to remind Golden puppies of their mom and their litter, which will help them to sleep and relax. If you are planning to have your Golden Retriever sleep with you, you should be ready to get up in the middle of the night and take him outside to use the bathroom.  You should keep his food and water near his bedding at all times, so if he gets hungry or thirsty he can get what he needs.  Then, you should planning on taking him out around an hour or so after he has eaten.

If you plan to leave your Golden Retriever outdoors, you’ll obviously need to use a different style of bedding.  Doghouses are essential for Golden’s who stay outdoors, as it helps to keep them warm and free of weather.  Inside of the doghouse on the other hand, most people tend to use straw so the Golden can make a bed out of it.  You can also use a blanket or quilt as well, so that your Golden can wrap himself up in it should he get cold. You can also use wooden shavings as well, as most Golden’s tend to like them.  Newspapers work good as well, as they give your Golden something to lay on besides a wooden floor.  Although doghouses work great for outdoor dogs, you should take your dog for walks on a daily basis and let him join you in activities that he finds enjoyable.  This way, you can build a unique and lasting friendship with your pet.  Golden Retrievers can quickly become the best friend you have ever had – as long as you take care of them.  Making sure that have the proper bedding is a great place to start.

Caring For Dogs That Are Hypoallergenic For Humans
Jul 1st, 2011 by admin

Hypoallergenic dog breeds have special needs because they are usually smaller in size and have temperaments that may be difficult to handle sometimes. When you first bring your new dog home, you should allow it to roam around to get an idea of its surroundings. If you have other pets, you should put them in another room while the dog is investigating the area. Depending on the breed of dog, they may be very scared at first. They may not want much human contact, so you should be careful about handling them too much during the first few days they are in your home.Once you new dog becomes comfortable, you should develop a feeding and hair brushing routine that you and your dog will follow. If you have allergies, brushing your dog every day will reduce the amount of allergens in the air. This will reduce the allergens on your carpets, furniture, clothing, and walls. Buy a steel comb with wide teeth that will help trap hair and get out any knots that may be in the dog’s fur. If you purchased a Mexican hairless or other breed that does not have hair, you should make sure that its skin is not dry. If you notice flaking, you should visit your vet who will prescribe medication or lotion that you can use.

Making sure your hypoallergenic dog gets plenty of exercise is important for their health and also for controlling allergens in your home. Walking your dog at least once a day and making sure it sleeps through the night will keep the dog on a routine. Dogs that are awake at night time may want to be with you. Allowing your dog to sleep on your bed could increase your risk of an allergy attack. Your dog should have a designated place to sleep during the night and during the day. Buying a soft bed or giving the dog an old blanket will help keep them warm and safe when they are sleeping. You should wash their pet bed often to prevent allergens from being transferred to carpeting or clothing. While you cannot prevent all allergens from getting into your clothing and inside your carpeting, you can reduce them by keeping everything in your home clean.

Dog grooming is also important when caring for a hypoallergenic dog. Even though the breed that you buy will probably have short hair, you will have to have it professionally groomed every few months to maintain the shape and also to keep the hair from becoming too long. Since hair can grow long and cover the dog’s eyes, and make it difficult for the dog to keep itself clean, grooming your dog will ensure that it remains healthy and happy. Now that you know more about caring for a hypoallergenic dog, you should remember that just because these dogs are considered a good choice for those with allergies, these dogs may still cause you to have allergy attacks from time to time. Hypoallergenic dogs reduce the risk of attacks, but cannot prevent them from occurring.

Bengal Cats
Jun 28th, 2011 by admin

Bengal cats are a hybrid variety of cats, which are very homely and friendly by nature with a very wild look. They are also very intelligent and alert. Along with being friendly, they are very good at sports. Their distinct features are markings such as spots and rosette. It has very close resemblance to the Asian Leopard Cat and from its taxonomic name was the word ‘Bengal’ derived. Bengals have an average build. Males weigh up to fifteen pounds and females weigh up to ten pounds. The horizontal lines on the side of their face, which starts from the end of their eyes and go up to the back of their neck, are known as mascara. Their bodies have spotting which is usually rosette or some even have a marbled coat pattern.  Bengals with spots, with more than one color, are the ones, which are more in demand. The color of spots varies from rust to chocolate brown to cocoa to gray and black. Their tail, hind legs and fore limbs has symmetrical stripes. Bengals cats win championships in most of the competitions held to award the most exotic pet because of their looks, intelligence and friendly nature.

Bengals are a result of years of selective crossbreeding techniques. Jean Mill of United States developed Bengals in 1970s. They are a hybrid breed created from crossing other breeds of domestic cats like American shorthair, Egyptian maus, ocicat, Abyssinian and other shorthaired pet cats. Basically, they originated by crossing small Asian Leopard cat or ALC and domestic cats. This gives them the wild and exotic look with a friendly nature. Breeders are still working all over the globe to develop more qualities in this breed. The foundation generations of the filial are the first three generations of Bengals. Most of the males of these generations didn’t have the ability to reproduce, where as the females were. After the fifth generation, they were no longer crossbred; instead breeding was done between two Bengal cats.

Presently there are three kinds of Bengal cats available as pets, the Cheetoh, the Toyger, and the Serengeti cat. The Cheetoh are hybrid cats derived by crossing Ocicat and Bengal, to get a breed of spotted cats. The Toyger are hybrid cats, which are produced by crossing domestic pets that results in a cat with stripes. The Serengeti cat has been produced by crossing Siamese or Oriental cats to get a cat that looks like an African Serval. Based on their patterns they can be named as brown marbled tabby, brown spotted tabby, seal mink marbled tabby, seal mink spotted tabby, seal sepia marbled tabby, seal sepia spotted tabby, seal marbled lynx point, and seal spotted lynx point. Other than the mentioned colors, they also come in blue, grey, and black, but still yet to get recognition across the world in these colors.

Unlike other domestic cats, Bengals get fascinated with running water and are easy to bathe. They get attracted to tap water, shower and instantly jump inside the tub. They are also trained to vocalize so as to interact with their owners. They are good with sports and play hide and seek and also learn games very well. Young ones need human attention and can be bonded with by playing for at least an hour during the day and evening. They are attention seekers and always try to be involved in human activities. They follow their owners, but do not like to be placed on laps. People who have made their minds to keep Bengals as pet should be aware that they have to spend lots of time with the cat, otherwise it will get bored. And if the cat gets bored it can get frustrated and can trouble a lot. They have a very high energy level, which they need to let out, that can only be done by keeping them occupied with activities. Owners who do not have time to spare should certainly keep Bengals in pairs, so that they can play with each other. But both the Bengals should be given equal attention, otherwise the neglected one tends to become envious of the other.
